Hello World!

This is the first post for my new blog, so I suppose it makes sense to introduce myself.  I've been blogging for a while on thequiltshow.com, but this is my first venture into the wide, wide world.  My name is Nancy Rehak and I'm a software engineer by day, a quilter by night.  I find quilting to be the more exciting of the two, so that's what this blog is about -- my quilting journey.

I started sewing in college in the 1980's.  My mom sewed a lot of our clothes when we were little, but I wasn't interested in learning then, so I had to do most of my learning from reading clothing and stuffed animal patterns.  I took my first quilting class sometime around 1990, so I guess I've been quilting for about 25 years now.  But I started out as a sporadic quilter and just became really serious about it around 10 years ago.  Now I try to do some sewing or quilting every day.  I love all kinds of quilts and also like to make bags and other things.

Why "dizzy dog quilting"?  Well, the short answer is that I think the name is cool.  When I finally got internet at home a couple of years ago, my wireless router came with the default network name of "dizzy dog".  I liked the name so have kept it for my network name and am adopting it for my blog name.  What a geek, huh?

On the personal side, I live alone in the mountains outside of Boulder, Colorado, with my dog, Lance:
And my two cats, Wesley and Buttercup:
Wesley is the light one; Buttercup is the dark one.  You'll see more pictures periodically, although I'll try not to bore you with them too much.  But they are mighty cute!

My plan is to try to post a new blog entry about once a week, showing everything I've worked on during the week.  If I have more to share, I'll post more often, but I don't usually accomplish enough to make that worthwhile.  I tend to jump around a lot, so there'll generally be little bits of progress on multiple projects.  I'll try to remember to take pictures and explain how I do things along the way.  I'll also tell you about shows I attend and classes I take.  I just got back from Houston, so I'll share some of my adventures there in upcoming posts.  I'll also make my blog prettier as I learn more about the features of blogspot.

I'd love to hear from you, so please feel free to comment on this post and tell me a little bit about yourself.  And always feel free to ask questions or give me advice about better ways to do things.  I always love to share and to learn different techniques!

Happy quilting!

Nancy

  1. Hey, Nancy, good for you!!! I've thought about it, but I still wasn't blogging regularly on TQS, so I knew I couldn't keep up with a regular blog. But you're inspiring me, so maybe. But I do hope the TQS blogs come back. Hugs, Robin

    1. I'm not sure where my original reply went so I'm trying again.

Let me know if you do start a new blog. I'd LOVE to follow what you are doing! And I'll, of course, read any blog posts on TQS. Love what you do!

  2. Your fur babies are so cute. I see you have snow already. We are in the midst of a horrible wind storm that is ripping shingles off the roof. On the bright side though is that the sun is shining which is rare this time of year in Oregon.

    1. This is one of my favorite pictures of Lance, but it's from several years ago. But we do have snow again right now. It's bitter cold (the outside temperature just got up to 0F) and we have about 6 inches of snow right now with more coming down. It looks more wintery out there right now that in the picture! I'm glad you are having a sunny day and hope the wind calms down soon. Wind can be really overwhelming, even if it doesn't cause too much damage!
